The Intermediate Ableton course helps producers unlock their full creative potential through advanced techniques in audio manipulation, MIDI programming, workflow design, and sound shaping. With structured feedback and hands-on instruction, students will build a release-ready track and sharpen their unique production style. By the end of the course, students will present a finished piece that incorporates warping, sampling, synthesis, and intermediate mixing strategies.

  • Warping and BPM Mapping
    • Learn warp modes, tempo mapping, and manual timing corrections for tight audio.
  • Resampling and Instrument Building
    • Capture in-session audio, convert to Simpler or Sampler, and build playable instruments.
  • Session Optimization and Routing
    • Organize groups, buses, sends, and returns for a clean, modular session.
  • Custom Racks and Macro Snapshots
    • Create MIDI, Instrument, and Audio Effect Racks with macro controls and saved presets.
  • Synthesis and Advanced Devices
    • Design sounds with Analog, Operator, Wavetable, Drift, and physical modeling devices like Tension, Collision, and Electric.
  • Modulation and Max for Live
    • Use LFO, Envelope Follower, Expression Control, Shaper, and time based or random devices to drive movement.
  • Mixing, Mastering, and Export
    • Apply EQ, compression, saturation, spatial effects, loudness targets, and export best practices.
  • Produce a 1 to 3 minute track for the Week 4 showcase with clear structure and dynamic contrast.
  • Build a reusable Ableton template with buses, sends, and three custom racks.
  • Create at least two custom instruments or presets using Simpler, Sampler, or Ableton synths.
  • Correct timing on audio using warp markers and align loops and vocals to the grid.
  • Apply intermediate mixing and basic mastering while keeping about 6 dB of headroom before limiting.
  • Export masters at 44.1 kHz 24-bit WAV with clear file naming and artist metadata.
  • Assemble a mini portfolio of 2 to 3 tracks at 2 to 3 minutes each, with production notes and one clean project file.
