Steve Marks is a New York City–based bassist who has performed professionally on both upright and electric bass since 1976. His career spans rock, jazz, classical, blues, theater, world music, and big band ensembles, with performances ranging from CBGB’s to Lincoln Center. He currently plays with the George Gee Big Band and the Sheiks, and is the author of The Zen of Bass and Developing Reading Skills for the Contemporary Bassist.

At Sound Collective, Steve brings decades of experience teaching bass performance, music theory, and reading skills across genres including jazz, blues, R&B, and rock. He emphasizes technical proficiency, musicality, and practical application, helping students build strong musicianship and versatile performance skills.
