Ricardo “Ricky” Rodríguez is a New York City–based bassist and composer originally from Ponce, Puerto Rico. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Classical Bass Performance from the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, studying under Federico Silva and Jose García. After mastering classical performance, Rodríguez expanded into jazz, taking private lessons with bassists Larry Grenadier and Scott Colley. He has performed with internationally acclaimed artists and ensembles, including David Sánchez Quartet, Branford Marsalis, Miguel Zenón Quartet, Lionel Loueke, Pedrito Martínez, Donny McCaslin Trio, Michel Camilo’s trio, and the Arturo O’Farrill Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra.

At Sound Collective, Rodríguez brings decades of professional experience to his bass instruction, guiding students through jazz, Latin, and contemporary styles. He emphasizes strong technique, improvisational fluency, and musical versatility, helping students develop both confidence and expression on their instrument. Students leave his classes with a deeper understanding of ensemble dynamics, advanced harmonic concepts, and practical skills to perform and compose across diverse musical settings.
