Matt Wong

Matt Wong is a New York City–based guitarist and educator whose playing is rooted in over twenty years of dedication to the instrument. Originally from Princeton Junction, NJ, he started lessons at age six and spent his teenage years commuting into the city to study with guitarist and composer Bruce Arnold, a mentorship he credits as foundational. Matt attended Berklee College of Music on scholarship, studying with Bruce Bartlett, Mick Goodrick, and John Damian, and later continued his growth with Adam Rogers and John Scofield. Equally at home on stage and in the studio, he records from his own professional home setup and NYC’s commercial rooms, with credits that include David Baron, Jeffrey Lesser, Jason Robert Brown, and artists across eight countries. His playing has appeared on NBC’s Today Show, MSNBC’s Morning Joe, and national commercial spots. Onstage, his work ranges from jazz clubs like the Blue Note to theaters across North America; he’s performed with artists such as Earl Klugh, Duncan Sheik, Ingrid Michaelson, and Kristin Chenoweth, and has played for over a dozen Broadway productions. He also contributed guitar and banjo to the Grammy-nominated Parade cast album.

His teaching focuses on building strong fundamentals while helping students find their voice on the instrument, whether that means navigating complex harmony, developing a versatile studio toolkit, or understanding what it really takes to be a modern working guitarist. Students leave his lessons with clear technique, broader musical awareness, and the confidence to step into both live and studio settings.
