Meet the Instructor

Peter Matson

Peter Matson is a Brooklyn, NY based musician, producer, and DJ. 

As founder and leader of the seminal NYC post-punk afro band Underground System he’s toured internationally and produced their records on Soul Clap, Hell Yeah, Planet e, with recent releases on Razor-n-Tape and Heavenly Sweetness. His most recent solo dance releases and remixes are finding their home on Brooklyn based label Bastard Jazz, Razor-N-Tape  as well as Heist Recordings, and as a performer and DJ he has seen it all: from The Apollo Theatre to Central Park NYC Summerstage, from Nightmoves and Public Records in BK, to loft parties of Mexico City, to Eurockeenes de Belfort, Fusion Festival in Germany, or headlining Laurent Garnier’s ‘Festival Yeah!’ In Lourmarin, France.

Education background: The New School For Jazz & Contemporary Music

Teaching background:

Master classes given at various colleges and universities internationally and extensive history of being involved with education organizations 

Local NYC full/part-time education positions:

Building Beats, New York, NY 

Teaching Artist 2014-2018 

Music production and ensemble classes. Extensive use of  modern digital production methods, apps, technology. Considerable  proliferation into NYC public schools in areas that otherwise would not  have access to music programming.

Music/Songwriting Instructor at Brooklyn College Art Lab/BCCP 2011- 2014 

Teach music production, guitar, bass, drums, and songwriting to  exceptionally talented high school students.
